Eyes shut, mind levered ajar, Ramona’s from LA and her music engulfs the imagination like daydream collateral; loneliness and boredom conspiring to turn underage bedrooms into observatories with telescopes aimed the way of young adulthood, learning the flail and seed of glittering beings, deep-house, disco chutzpah. Recently picked up by Mike Simonetti’s esteemable Italians Do It...
International Pony, one of the best pop groups almost no one has heard of, outdid themselves with this grin-inducing video for “Gothic Girl.” Depicting the trio (DJ Koze, Cosmic DJ and Erobique) decked out in fruit, feathers, make-up and spandex, the video shows IP transforming a group of gothic girls into back up dancers with their goofy antics. The result recalls Daft Punk with a...

Oh, Spike Jonze, how you have made our world better with television shows about dudes beating themselves up, movies where Cameron Diaz looks unattractive, and a small, still-overlooked part in Three Kings that basically rescued that movie from being terrible. Video Days was pretty great too. And yet, all of these accomplishments, and still no real props for your b-boy moves. Seems unfair....
For our one-year anniversary, we reached out to some of the people and artists that we work to ask them to create a playlist of tunes from our catalog. We got some great ones back, and we’ll be posting them throughout the rest of the week along with selections from our editors. As always, these are embeddable on other blogs, websites, etc. so share them around and stay tuned for more.

Dizzee’s been in and out of the news lately, what with the Jeremy Paxman interview and the baseball bat incident, so it’s important to remember what a solid and important producer and MC dude has been and continues to be. The Billy Squier sample hear is great and all, but Dizzee’s self-produced beat, “We Will Rock You” hits and all, still kills it after five...
Welcome to the RCRD LBL Top Ten. We’ve started our very own so we’re able to bring you our most popular tracks for the week in the form of a handy weekend digest. Not to mention we thought it would be fun to let our artists have some bragging rights (we kid!). Props to Kid Cudi for netting the number one spot this week, and a warm top five welcome to The Hours. Keep checking this...
When Elliot and came up with the idea for RCRD LBL a couple of years we didn’t actually expect we’d ever be able to work with so many awesome bands, so when it came time for me to narrow it down to ten or so I discovered that putting together a playlist was actually a lot tougher than I’d thought it would be. In the interest of expediency I decided to focus on one corner of the...
I won’t be doing my job if I didn’t hit you with the most choice stuff so here goes. Below is a quick and dirty mix of my favorite songs from the now rather extensive RCRD LBL stacks. It’s been a real pleasure working with all these artists and I’m damn proud to have them on our little website. As always, I hope you turn these songs up loud and hopefully get turned on to...

We’re extremely happy to say the RCRD LBL Podcast has brought the goodness yet again this week. You can download it directly using the link below or add it your iTunes using our handy...
Looking back at all the great songs that made me the upstanding citizen that I am today, this one was an important jam for me. As a quick bit of background Swing Kids (who are reforming for some shows this spring) were from San Diego and one of the bands that really set me off to the whole artcore/Gravity Records thing. They also turned me on to Joy Division via this excellent cover....
Philadelphian son he may be, but Starkey’s chops and glugs sound honed in Croydon, England; where shack-ish train portals shuttle passengers through an undergrowth of industrial towers at the blurred, suburban edges of London’s consciousness. “Gutter Music”, parts pulled from Metalheadz drum’n’bass, Wiley’s grime, Skream’s Plastician-era dubstep and imported electro, rattles and hums along like...
Yesterday at my family’s Christmas dinner in Chicago I found myself talking about how I want to go to Miami, a place I’ve never been but finally accepted was a worthy travel destination when I found out Iggy Pop had moved there years ago (Hey, it’s the little things that sway me). The first thing I thought of when we started talking about Mee-Am-I was this video, which is...
I guess we should’ve known that the whole Game/50 partnership wasn’t going to work out when, in this video for Game’s first official single from his debut The Documentary, it takes them three minutes to actually appear in a shot together. But that’s what clubs are for, right? Bringing people together. The most interesting thing in this otherwise cliche video is that...
Tinchy Stryder is not your average east London MC. The kid’s been knocking around for years, first coming to the attention of those outside grime and his Bow manor when he won ‘Best Newcomer’ at the Sidewinder Awards back in 2003. Now turned 21 and boasting collaborative links with artists as odd as Craig David and Gang Gang Dance, Tinchy – born Kwasi Danquah – is planning to release his...

Well, after another brief hiatus, we’re glad to welcome back the mighty RCRD LBL Podcast. This week, we have some choice tracks from the likes of the Kanye West/Flying Lotus, Bug Lung Baby, and N.A.S.A. — plus some witty banter from our host Elliot Aronow. Like we said, we’re going to continue doing these on the reg from now on with help from our stellar podcast producer, Trent...
